Direct Flights from Major U.S. Cities: Several airlines are increasing direct flight options to Costa Rica from major U.S. cities like Los Angeles, New York, Dallas, and Miami. This means shorter travel times and less hassle for those seeking a quick escape to our beautiful beaches and rainforests.
Here are the latest new arrivals to the extensive flight options available between the US and Costa Rica!
US West Coast – Costa Rica with more direct flights.
United Airlines will begin a direct service between San Francisco, California, and San Jose Juan Santamaria International Airport on May 22, 2025.
United Airlines operates flights from Juan Santamaría International Airport (SJO) to six U.S. cities including Denver (DEN), New York/Newark (EWR), Washington-Dulles (IAD), Houston (IAH), Los Angeles (LAX), and Chicago (ORD). The San Francisco flight will now connect San Jose with all 7 of its hubs.
United has also increased its flights between Chicago and Guanacaste and from December 19, 2024, will operate daily between these two cities. It has also increased its flights between Houston and Guanacaste up to three flights a week from the previous twice-weekly operation.
Alaska Airlines has announced the launch of two new direct flights connecting the west coast of the USA with Guanacaste International Airport:
- Seattle – Guanacaste
- San Francisco – Guanacaste
Both flights will run on Saturdays using a Boeing 737-8 Max which holds up to 178 passengers, eager to get to the sun and sand of the Golden Coast of Guanacaste.
Delta Airlines has announced a nonstop seasonal flight between Boston, Massachusetts, and Guanacaste International Airport on Saturdays between the 11th of January and May 31st, 2025. This new service will take Bostonians from the cold of winter to the lush rainforest, majestic volcanoes, and beautiful beaches of Costa Rica. This new weekly service will provide Delta customers in Boston with direct access to the lush rainforests, majestic volcanoes, and stunning beaches of Costa Rica’s Guanacaste province every Saturday.
Options from Canada: Canada-based travelers will also have opportunities to visit Costa Rica, with Air Canada offering flights from Toronto and Montreal to San José. In addition, WestJet is now offering direct flights from Vancouver to Liberia, making it easier to access the Pacific coast’s pristine beaches.

European Connections on the Rise
Germany and Costa Rica are closer than ever!
Lufthansa has restarted its direct flights between Frankfurt, Germany, and the Juan Santamaria International Airport with two flights per week except for March when flights will operate on Tuesdays, Thursdays, Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays
England to Costa Rica just became faster!
British Airways has announced a new direct flight from London Gatwick to Juan Santamaria International Airport in San Jose, beginning in late October 2024. This will provide UK travelers easier access to Costa Rica’s national parks, beaches volcanoes, and rainforests. This seasonal service will fly 3 times a week on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays

Latin America: Enhanced Regional Connections
Mexico and Central America Flights: Costa Rica is becoming a hub for travelers from Latin America. These increased options make Costa Rica more accessible to neighboring countries’ travelers, whether for business or leisure.
Guadalajara, Mexico and San Jose, Costa Rica direct!
Volaris will connect these two cities on Tuesdays and Saturdays beginning at the end of October 2024. This new direct flight is a reflection of the increase in Mexicans visiting Costa Rica for its ecotourism and beautiful beaches.
New Routes from South America: Travelers from South America, particularly Brazil and Argentina, will see additional flights to Costa Rica.
Brazil´s Samba and Costa Rica´s Swing unite!
From November 2024 onwards, GOL Linhas Aéreas will begin a three-weekly frequency between Sao Paolo and San Jose. This direct flight connecting Costa Rica with Brazil is the first of its kind flying on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays.
The São Paulo to San José route is expected to cater to more eco-tourism enthusiasts eager to explore Costa Rica’s national parks and biodiversity hotspots.
Avianca with daily flights to Argentina!
At the end of August 2024, Avianca began flying its San Jose – Quito – Buenos Aires route. This convenient flight with just an hour-long layover in Quito means that Central America and the Southern Cone are just that much closer.
The option via Quito will operate three times a week. On the other days, Avianca continues to service the Costa Rica – Argentina route via Bogota, Colombia.
